3D Design Projects.

These projects are a mixture of preliminary steps I took in studio classes and also a 3D Design Class that I took my first year at Indiana University. Whatever the project is, I've discovered that I always enjoy working with tangible 3-dimensional materials.

Acrylic and String

I made this project during a 3D Design class. I used a laser cutter to cut out precise pieces of acrylic that were made in Rhino which you can see in the 4th photo. Next, I molded the tall pieces to follow the curve of the circles using a heat gun and special glue to ensure it stayed together. Lastly, I strung the yarn through all of the holes to create the overall flowing appearance between the sections. I learned a lot of differnt techniques very quickly in order to make this project a success which is what made it so fun. This piece was also featured in IU School of Art, Architecture, and Design's featured book for interested students which can be in the second picture.

Laser Cute 5" Square

I first started by creating a 3-planed study model to visualized the center of the square and then proceeded to draft ideas of what the cutouts on the outside will look like. I created the final 3-dimensional square using rhino and then used a laser cutter provided by the school to use the Rhino software to cut into chipboard.

Cardboard Packaging

The assignment was to make a functional yet elegant packaging for a drink of our choice. The product that I chose was Red Bull mainly because of the brightly colored cans which gave me a lot of ideas right away. Shown in the last picture, I began making full-scale models trying to work out the problems of previous designs. The cut-out designs were to show-case the different flavors that I chose, not only highlighting the product but the beautiful packaging as well.
